Calamity Books FAQ:

Do you take donations?

Yes, but it depends.  I have to have the space for them, they must be in good condition, and they must be resellable.  I don’t know whether they are any of these things for sure unless I have seen them in person.  Sometimes I can take them, but not for a long while.  I must do all of the book inspections by appointment only.  Sometimes I can only take five, sometimes I can take a thousand.  It all depends.  Please stop by the store in person to start the process.  I will only start the process in person.  And, as always, absolutely no drop-off donations.

Do you buy books?

Generally, no, but it depends.  I would have to really, really want your books to be able to hand over cash for them, which means they would have to have good turn-over, or I want them for my personal collection.  This policy helps me keep my prices low by reducing my overhead.

Do you consign books?

Yes, I consign books, however, I do have stringent intake policies.  Basically, the books have to have stronger resale value.  The seller should also expect the sales process to be very slow and unpredictable.  It is just the nature of the used book market.  The consignment rate ranges from 30-50%.  You must come into the store physically to arrange for a consignment.

Would you like to go out on a date?

No.  Nope.  Absolutley not.  I am just performing good customer service and I am not actually hitting on you.

Why do you sometimes have inconsistent hours?

I am running two businesses and am also a single mom with a chronic illness, so I sometimes just need to close the shop or rearrange the hours to manage a healthy and balanced home life for me and my kids.  I really appreciate your patience!
